Fire of Pentecost

Fire! Pentecost is a celebration of the fire of the Holy Spirit!

The decent of the Holy Spirit. Let us pray in our own upper room that the Holy Spirit would purify us and to prepare and empower us to bring the light and love of God into the world.

Fire is a destructive force! Fire turns many material things into dust - EXCEPT when the material is such that the fire does not destroy, rather purifies and changes its properties for the better. Our souls are such a material.

“The crucible for silver, and the furnace for gold, but the tester of hearts is the LORD.” (Proverbs 17:3)

The fire of the Holy Spirit does not destroy us, rather enhances, purifies, restores our soul to its original state! How blessed are we to have this gift available to us for the asking, and that we can intercede for others who may not know to ask or know how to ask!

“In this you rejoice, although now for a little while you may have to suffer through various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold that is perishable even though tested by fire, may prove to be for praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 1:6-7)

One of my favorite Novenas to pray during the 9 days preceding Pentecost is one posted at EWTN (click to view)! The novena usually is begun Friday of the 6th Week of Easter.

I pray this novena fervently for those around me who do not know God. I pray that the Holy Spirit finds cracks in the armor of their lives that they have built up over the years; to infuse one gift or another at a level they have not known before. The blessing of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is that they are natural gifts which often exist in all of us to some degree or another regardless of faith background, but that the fire of the Holy Spirit can raise to a whole new level, even more-so within the soul that has given itself to God.
